Blue and Orange Nursery: Our Boho Boy Bedroom

Blue and Orange Nursery: Our Boho Boy Bedroom /// By Design Fixation

When I found out that our second kiddo was a boy, I was so excited… I’ve always felt like I would have a boy, so now that we have one of each, our little family feels complete. And bonus – it would be a fun design challenge for me to decorate for a little guy. (In case you missed it, here’s our daughter’s nursery). I decided to go with a navy blue and rust orange color scheme, incorporating wood toned furniture and bohemian vibes for the accents.

One of the first DIYs I did was the mobile… and it’s actually a makeover project. It used to look like this but since we’re no longer using it in my daughter’s bedroom, I wanted to repurpose it for baby boy’s blue and orange nursery. I repainted the half circles a rust orange color and that was that!

The orange coordinates perfectly with the other accents in the room (most of which are DIYs, of course, which means I could easily control the shade of orange).

And yes, I made these little pallet bookshelves too. They’re similar to the ones that you can see in the background of this image that I shot of our playroom.

We got the navy blue and cream rug at RugsUSA.com, which is my go-to for affordable rugs. Love the vibe and texture of it… plus, it’s made of 100% cotton fibers so it will be safe for our little one to play on.

Here’s another look at the repurposed mobile with some paintings that I made in the background.

The gallery wall took a while to come together, partly because I wanted to incorporate other things along with framed artwork (and partly because I’m indecisive). I made this wall hanging using wooden shapes and rope (check out the tutorial here) and I included some little decorative shelves as well.

Hope you enjoyed the tour of our blue and orange nursery… our baby boy is loving it! If you’re looking for more baby DIY and decor inspiration, check out these posts.
