1. Stencils
I’m a huge fan of stencils – they’re even more versatile than you might think. Check out my absolute favorite stencil here. You can use them to create shapes on paper, wood, tile, etc. and you can also use more than just paint to fill them in. I recently used rubber stamps to fill in an ampersand stamp from Stencil Revolution. Which leads me to the next item on my list….
2. Rubber Stamps
Rubber stamps can also be used in many ways… in addition to traditional ink pad stamping, you might also consider stamping on clay, stamping on fabric or using a stamped pattern as a coloring page.
In case you missed it – I’ve been sharing one ampersand [almost] every day this year. Check them out in my Instagram story highlights.
3. Metalized Polyester Film Tape
This stuff is fantastic. It’s stickier than Washi tape and much more metallic… it has a lovely reflective quality. It comes in many different widths too. Check it out here.
Find out how to use the gold film tape to make your own faux wallpaper.
4. Embroidery Floss
Embroidery floss can be used for, well, embroidery… but also other things like friendship bracelets, cross stitch and with a punch needle. And of course you can use it to make tassels! Check out my DIY phone charging cable tassel here. Get a great starter set of embroidery floss with the most popular colors right here.
5. Polymer Clay
You may have heard it referred to as “oven bake clay” or perhaps by brand name (Sculpey or Fimo). I don’t care what you call it, as long as you get some to have on hand! I’ve used it for everything from earrings to bowls to planters. And I just made the necklace above for Curbly. Here’s my favorite brand.
6. Dremel Saw-Max
This is a small, easy to handle saw that’s great for small projects (like my wooden dowel alternative Christmas tree above). I use it all the time. It’s amazing. Check it out here.
7. Hot Glue Gun
Seriously guys, I use my glue gun all the time. It might actually be one of the best craft supplies ever invented. If you don’t have one, you’re going to want to get one. I used it to make the cork wreath above, one of my favorite glue gun centric projects ever. Get your own glue gun here.
8. Chalk Marker
I actually don’t use my chalk markers on chalkboards very often… but I use them on pretty much every other surface. Like on the kraft paper tags for my friend’s baby shower. And this is my favorite chalk marker.
9. Liquid Leaf
This is an oil-based metallic paint… and I like it because it’s much more metallic than most water-based craft paints. I have it in gold and silver. Grab a bottle here and then check out my gold shoe makeover.
10. E6000 Glue
If a hot glue gun won’t work for a project (rare, I know… but sometimes hot glue can dry too fast or melt if you’re using it on something that will get hot) then E6000 is my go-to adhesive. It dries slowly and provides a strong, permanent bond. I used it to make a fun starburst mirror out of clothespins, shown above. Get a tube of it here.
