We’ve all been there… frantically closing out apps and switching to airplane mode with the hope of having enough battery power to call an Uber at the end of the night. Well fret no more, my pets! At first glance, this tassel just looks like a pretty little trinket to hang on your bag or use as a keychain. Which it is…. but it’s also a phone charging cable tassel that you can use to connect your phone to a portable charger!
The charging cable hides in amongst the tassel strands, and you can just attach one end to your phone and the other end to your charger. Form and function at its best!
See? Easy peasy! And the o-ring is detachable so you can either keep it attached and tuck everything inside your purse while you’re charging up, or you can detach it and put it somewhere else. Totally handy. So let’s get started.
Here’s what you’ll need for your phone charging cable tassel:
- 1 inch diameter old o-ring carabiner buckle
- 12 mm diameter gold barrel end cap
- 12 mm gold jump ring
- 6 inch lightning iPhone charging cord
- Assorted embroidery floss colors
- Gold wire (approximately 26 gauge)
- E6000 Glue
- Fine tooth comb
- Needle nose pliers with wire cutters
- Scissors
Begin by cutting about 40 pieces of one foot long embroidery floss strands in a variety of colors.
Split them in half, and lay them out on your work surface. Place the charging cable in the center of the two clusters of embroidery floss. Cut another piece of 1 foot long floss in any color and tie it around the center of the cable and floss as shown above. Tie it in a double knot.
Put a small dollop of E6000 glue inside of the end cap. Fold the floss and cable in half at that tied-off center point and insert it into the glue-filled end cap. Wipe away any excess glue, and set it aside to dry thoroughly.
Next, use the gold wire to attach the end cap to the jump ring. Be sure to wrap it around a couple of times to ensure that it’s secure. Slip the o-ring carabiner around the jump ring, and use your fine tooth comb to separate the strands of the floss and make them straight and even. Last, trim the ends of the floss so that they are about a half inch longer than the ends of the charging cable.
And that’s it… your phone charging cable tassel is complete!
And if you don’t already have a portable charger to go along with your tassel, this one is my favorite… it’s lightweight and provides two full charges. I have it in gray, and my hubs has it in black. It’s a lifesaver for vacations or long days out on the town.
There’s nothing I love more than combining form with function… and this might be my new fave! I think it must be that glam gold hardware 😉
