Q&A with Faith of Design Fixation
Wayfair: Are there any color palettes or trends that are really speaking to you right now?
Faith: I’m loving the black and neutral combo that’s so popular for interiors right now… it looks great both indoors and out. It’s so versatile and really allows any surrounding greenery or flower garden to stand out. And black is great for outdoor furniture because it hides any dirt and grime that will inevitably accumulate.
Wayfair: What is your advice for maximizing outdoor living space for those who may only have a smaller patio or balcony?
Faith: Look into pieces that do double duty like convertible furniture, and be sure to create some type of dining area so you can maximize your time outside. Choose items that have a smaller visual footprint… clear lucite is a great material to consider, and lighter colors feel like they take up less space visually. Also don’t forget about vertical space – get wall mounted planters and hang up folding chairs when you’re not using them.
Wayfair: Sunshine and blue skies have us daydreaming about outdoor dining! What are your favorite style tips for alfresco tablescapes and entertaining?
Faith: My favorite way to add ambience to an outdoor space is to hang bistro lights above your table… It makes it feel inviting and almost magical. I also love to put a big vase of flowers or greenery in the center of the tables cape. Pick them from your garden or yard if you can! And lastly, don’t forget that textiles can be used outside as well; grab a macrame table runner and some water hyacinth placemats for a boho look.
Wayfair: Which pieces do you recommend investing in for your outdoor space? Which pieces do you change out to keep your oasis fresh and on-trend?
Faith: I like to invest a bit more in the larger outdoor items like sofas, tables and chairs, and I also have a large storage container to keep the cushions clean and dry. But I also like to pick new accessories every year to change up the look of my patio. Adding new throw pillows and rugs will give your space a completely different feel.
