It’s been difficult for me to know what to say or do during this time of unrest in the U.S. Racial tensions have reached a high that I haven’t seen in my lifetime, and I have been struggling with how to do my part to help end the unjust conditions people of color face in our country. I’ve always learned a lot about myself and the world around me through art, so I felt that the best way for me to help at this particular moment is to share links to some inspiring black artists that I follow so that you might also gain some insight into the crisis through their eyes.
There’s a wonderful account called @AbsolutArt (in the image above) that focuses on diverse art, providing a platform for POC to share their voices through art. And keep reading check out a few more of my favorite artists.
MOJO is a realist painter who’s motto is “impacting the world one color at a time.” I love the play between cool and warm colors.
Christa David creates beautiful collage art that addresses racial issues. I love how the abstract backgrounds are juxtaposed with the photographs of people.
This account is written by Allie Hoffman and illustrated with collages made by the talented Kendrick Daye. There’s so much feeling in those images.
Nikkolas Smith is a concept artist and illustrator who focuses on portraying current events and issues. Interestingly, he also designs theme parks.
Adrienne is a stunning painter and she makes these fantastic paper dolls. I also enjoy following her homeschooling and baking journeys.
There are so SO many other people creating diverse art, but these are just a few that have stood out to me lately. Feel free to send me links to other accounts that you like… I’m always on the hunt for more inspiration.
