As an expecting mom, I had a general sense of what I would need to buy for my new little one… but when it came to specific brands and products, I wish I had known more. Now that my daughter is three months old, I have 19 items that I want to share with you guys so you don’t have to muddle your way through it like I did. None of these items are sponsored, and though some of them are affiliate links, I own every single one of these items and would give them all five star reviews. So shop confidently, knowing that I’m completely obsessed with all of these mom lifesavers. So without further adieu, here are the best newborn products I can’t live without!
1. Munchkin Step Diaper Pail – This thing is so cool, you guys. Yes, I said it – a cool garbage can. It has a ring at the top that twists closed after you put the dirty diaper in so it prevents odors from seeping out. It’s worth every. single. penny.
2. Large Carabiner – I use this on the stroller handle to hold both my purse and extra shopping bags and it’s totally handy. Not a need-to-have, but definitely a nice-to-have.
3. Baby Shusher – Every mom and I know shushes their baby when he or she is crying and it works for most because it mimics the sound of the womb. But shushing gets old when you’re doing it for hours on end… so this little lifesaver shushes for you! This might be one of the best newborn products I’ve tried, and it’s even quite affordable.
4. Munchkin Bottle Brush – This brush is so great for cleaning out bottles and pump parts. It has a little detachable nipple cleaner that screws right into the end of the handle, and the brush has a sponge in addition to bristles. I must use it hundred times a day. Okay maybe not quite, but it feels like that sometimes….
5. Nested Bean Swaddle – There are a ton of swaddles on the market but a friend of mine recommended this one and we love it. It has a little pocket of beans that adds a bit of weight over your baby’s chest to mimic the feel of your hands comforting her.
6. Changing Table Liners – Changing table liners are great to have on hand whether you have a soft changing pad or one of the wipe clean types. You can toss them in the laundry if you have some errant pee or poop, or you can throw them in the trash with less guilt if you have a stage 10 blowout!
7. Stroller Cup Holder – I use my stroller cup holder all the time. I use it for coffee (duh) but also for water bottles (hello breast feeding thirst) and I even stick my phone in it sometimes.
8. Boon Countertop Drying Rack – Whoever invented the Boon drying rack must be a millionaire because every mom I know owns one. I like the white one, but it also comes in green. I kind of wish I had two of them I use mine so much!
9. Foot Switch Extension Cord – This is so handy. When you’re carrying baby around you can just use your foot to turn on a tabletop lamp instead of having to fumble around for the light switch. AND it’s also great for Christmas tree lights!
Now for some clothing and breastfeeding-related recommendations….
10. MagneticMe Baby Clothes – I can’t tell you how awesome this MagneticMe clothing is. When you’re fumbling around at 3 AM to change that blowout, there’s nothing worse than snaps. It takes about one second to close the magnets, and the fabric is so soft. They make great gifts at baby showers!
11. Freezable Lunch Bag – This freezable lunch bag is super handy. I use it to bring milk or with me when we’re heading out on the town, and I also bring it with me if I’m planning to pump and bring milk home. It easily fits at least two bottles along with a small ice pack.
12. Jeggings – I wear these denim leggings waaaay too much (I’m wearing them as I write this, in fact). They’re incredibly comfortable, but I still look like I’ve actually gotten dressed – which is a major win when you’re a new mom! In my opinion they run fairly true to size, maybe a bit on the small side.
13. Breast Friend – If you’re breast-feeding, this boppy-style pillow is one of the best newborn products I’ve found. It has a flatter shape than a boppy so baby can stay put better. It also has a handy little pocket for your phone or a water bottle.
14. Disposable Nursing Pads – I started out buying the reusable nursing pads to catch leaking milk and I’ll be honest with you, they started to smell as the day went on! Ew!! So I would highly recommend getting the disposable ones as a more hygienic option. You don’t want to risk getting thrush (a fungal infection that breeds in warm, moist areas).
15. Simple Wishes Pumping Bra – I started out using another pumping bra that attaches to your existing nursing tank top, which seemed like a good idea at the time but it was not very supportive. You need a heavy duty pumping bra so it can support the weight of the heavy milk-filled bottles. This one by Simple Wishes is soooo much better.
16. Milk Savers On-The-Go Breast Shells – If you’re breast-feeding, these are handy to have around. I put one on the side that she’s not nursing on to collect any excess milk, and sometimes I get as much as an ounce or two on each side. Imagine if that was going to waste!? You can also wear them in between feedings to catch any leakage.
17. Maternity Nursing Tanks – I literally live in maternity nursing tanks. All day, every day. And all night haha. Plus a cardigan this time of year. These are great ones and they worked throughout my pregnancy as well because they’re super stretchy. And the price is right!
18. Haakaa – The Haakaa is a breastmilk collection cup that attaches to your breast using suction and pulls the milk out. It’s sort of an analog version of an electric breast pump. Sometimes if baby only nurses from one side, I’ve used the Haakaa to empty the other side. Or you can also use it to collect your letdown on the other side when you’re breast-feeding (but make sure it doesn’t suck out so much that you’re taking away from baby’s supply).
19. Echo Dot – Anything that can be done hands-free is a blessing when you have a newborn, so needless to say Alexa has been very helpful. I like to ask her to set timers, to turn on lights, etc. Call me lazy, but when you have a baby on your lap and and a pump on your boobs there’s no way you’re getting up to adjust the thermostat. So why not have your Echo Dot do it?
UPDATE: We absolutely adore these moccasins… they actually stay on! Insert shocked face emoji here. And for every pair sold, BirdRock Baby feeds a child in need. Check them out right here.
And that’s it! Hope you enjoyed learning about the best newborn products that I can’t live without. On the hunt for some more baby inspiration? Check out my nursery tour here.
