I have a confession to make: I’m not a big fan of orange. And in the fall that presents a bit of a problem 🙂 But now that mini white pumpkins and green heirloom ones are more popular, I can finally decorate for fall in a style that’s more “me.” And when three of my blogger friends came to me with the idea to use this year’s trends to decorate these pumpkins, I didn’t even stop to think about it. The answer was yes, of course!
Multi-color crafts have been super trendy this year, thanks in part to the book Craft the Rainbow: 40 Colorful Paper Projects by The House That Lars Built. So I thought I’d take a crack at a rainbow confetti pumpkin!
How To Make A Rainbow Confetti Pumpkin
Last year I shared this tutorial using tissue paper, and I used the same technique for this project.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Small white pumpkin
- Tissue paper in a variety of colors
- Scissors
- Elmer’s glue
- Foam brush
- Disposable cup
Begin by cutting tiny strips of tissue paper. They should be about 1/8 inch wide. Then cut those into 1/2 inch pieces. Repeat this process for each color.
Add four parts glue and one part water to your disposable cup and mix it up using the foam brush.
Brush the glue mixture onto the top surface of the pumpkin and begin adding tissue strips at random. Once the top half is done, hold it upside down by the stem and finish adding strips to the bottom half. Set it down carefully to dry.
The resulting pumpkin is colorful, fun and filled with personality. It’s certainly not your average fall decor!
This rainbow confetti pumpkin project is very customizable… you can choose any color scheme, and any shape too! You might consider creating tissue circles using a hole punch, or irregular geometric shapes for an 80’s vibe. Have fun with it!
