It’s that time of year again… holiday card time! How is that even possible, by the way? Did we enter a time warp when Covid hit? It’s been the longest and shortest year of my life 🙂 Anyway, I wanted to personalize our envelopes again this year – it’s such a fun way to add a unique touch, especially since it’s the first thing people will see. SPOILER ALERT: if you don’t want to see what our card looks like (I’m looking at you Priscilla!) then don’t click through.
I wanted to achieve a speckled look on the envelopes, so of course I brought in the big guns – spray paint! All you have to do is hold the can a couple of feet above the envelope and spray lightly. Shake the can a bit while you’re spraying to get some larger speckles. You can lay all the envelopes out on a tarp to make it easier. Let them dry, flip over and repeat. Make sure to leave the flaps closed so you don’t get paint on the part that you lick. Yuck.
I used gold and dark green spray paint, but you can use any colors you like. They do get a bit dusty, so be sure to shake them off before stuffing them. We got our cards from Mixbook again this year… I just adore their “real foil” cards. The metallic elements are super shiny and just add such a festive feel. Mixbook has TONS of different designs to choose from, and you can customize the layouts too.
While we were at it, we also ordered one of their calendars for my mom. We filled it with kiddo pics this year, because let’s face it, that’s more fun to look at than photos of flowers like I usually do. I used a very simple design, but they have tons of colorful templates available too.
Happy holidays from Design Fixation… though it may look and feel a bit different this year, I hope all of you can make some new traditions 🙂
