While I’m on maternity leave, I’ve asked a few of my favorite bloggers to contribute to Design Fixation. Today, my friend Holly from Club Crafted will be sharing how to create this impossibly fabulous boho fringe pillow. Take it away Holly!
Hi there! I, Holly, am so excited to share a fun home decor DIY with you all while Faith is focusing on Baby Provencher! I’m trying to add cozy fall details to my home for the season, and this no-sew boho fringe pillow was the perfect addition to our living room. Using a plain pillowcase, you can add homemade fringe and colorful tassel trim to bring some bohemian vibes to your home – all without a sewing machine!
It’s amazing what a little fringe can do to a plain pillowcase! This easy, no-sew pillowcase idea is made with heavy-duty fabric glue, yarn and scrap fabric to create homemade fringe to embellish any pillowcase. I layered it on top of each other and finished it with a colorful tassel trim I found at JOANN. Mix and match colors or choose simple neutrals for a fun addition to your home décor that make it instantly cozier! I personally believe you can never, ever have too many pillows.
Here’s how to make your own boho fringe pillow – no sewing needed!
Here’s what you’ll need for your boho fringe pillow:
- Lumbar pillowcase (I love these velvet pillows from World Market!)
- Super Fabric Adhesive*
- Yarn*
- Scrap fabric, similar to pillowcase fabric
- Scissors
- 1 yard tassel trim*
For best results, choose a removable pillowcase. You can also make a pillowcase yourself, then decorate it with this DIY fringe!
Step 1
Remove the pillowcase from the pillow and place flat on a surface.
Step 2
Cut six 1-inch-thick strips of your scrap fabric to the height of your pillow.
Step 3
Wrap yarn around your hand (or a piece of cardboard) until fairly thick, then carefully slide off your hand. Repeat with several “bundles” of yarn in approximately the same size.
Step 4
Generously apply glue to the back side of a strip of scrap fabric, just along the bottom half. Place the top loops of the yarn on top of the glue all the way across the strip.
Step 5
Fill the strip with yarn, then apply more glue on the top half of the fabric and on the yarn. Fold over the fabric so that it covers the top part of the yarn.
Step 6
Cut along the bottom of the yarn loops to cut the loops free and even out the fringe. Repeat with all six strips so that you have six strips of fringe
Step 7
Glue the fabric part of the fringe strips to either side of the lumbar pillow. The fringe should be facing outward. Layer the three strips on top of each other enough to disguise the scrap fabric.
Step 8
Cut the tassel trip to the height of the pillow and glue on top of the innermost strip to hide the scrap fabric.
Then let the boho fringe pillow dry completely before placing the pillow back inside the embellished pillowcase. Place it on your bed, couch or a chair for a cozy new bohemian element. With a heavy super glue, even light use should keep your pillowcase embellishments stuck in place!
