We drink a lot of wine in this household, so I’m always trying to think of fun wine-related DIYs to share with you guys. We host Thanksgiving every year, and everyone always has to ask us which wines are in which decanter as we pass them around the dinner table. So of course the DIY wheels started turning… and a DIY wine decanter sign was born!
This sign is super easy to create, and it makes a great gift for your wine-loving friends. Plus, the holiday themed adornments are simply clipped on, which means that you can use it all year long simply by swapping out the decorations. So let’s get started!
Here’s what you’ll need for your DIY wine decanter sign:
- Evergreen branches
- Artificial berry branches
- Hot glue gun
- Small chalkboards
- Mini clothespins
- Gold ribbon
- Pink acrylic craft paint and brush (optional)
- Adhesive velcro
- Fine tip chalk marker
- Scissors
- A decanter and some wine of course!
Step number one is optional. But I’ve been decorating with non-traditional colors this year so I painted my berries bright pink using a small paint brush.
Next, cut a piece of 7 inch ribbon. Glue one end to the back of the chalkboard.
Attach a one inch long piece of velcro to the back of the other side of the board and then attach the matching piece of velcro to the other end of the ribbon as shown above. This is helpful since some decanters have wider necks than others, so it’s nice to be able to adjust the length of the ribbon.
Next, use a fine tip chalk marker to write the type of wine on the chalkboard. Let it dry.
Last, clip a small piece of an evergreen branch and a little portion of the berry branch to the corner of the sign.
Fill your decanter with red wine (the new Bordeaux from 90+ is my current favorite) and slip the sign around the neck. There will never be any more confusion at the dinner table again! Make a whole set of them so you have enough to label all of your decanters.
You can customize these with different ribbon colors, or different decorations – a silver theme would be fun too. And if you’re giving them as a gift, you could pair them with a decanter and a bottle of wine… the perfectly composed gift!
