It’s bathroom renovation time. Mike and I have been putting this off for quite a while now, but I think we’re finally doing it. Our upstairs bathroom is was (see the now-renovated space here!) one of those builder grade spaces that is functional but just not at all pleasant. Like… I hate to shower in there and kinda prefer the less convenient downstairs one.
So while we’re searching for the right contractor, I’ve been pulling together ideas for materials. Floor tiles are proving to be the most difficult – I adore the bold black and white patterned floor tiles in the images above (source 1, source 2). It’s everywhere right now, but Mike is concerned (rightly so) about future resale value when this trend inevitably goes out of style. So I started hunting for tiles with the same patterned vibe but a more subtle design. And I figured I can’t be the only one on the same mission… so I’m sharing my finds with you!
Oh hex tile, how I love thee. There is something about a hexagon that I just can’t get enough of. This geometric patterned tile is interesting without being polarizing… I feel like it would be a crowd pleaser (and therefore a good choice when taking resale into account).
This rhombus mosaic tile could be toned up or down depending on the grout color you choose… black grout would give it a very subtle pattern which I think I’d love, while the white grout makes the design stand out more.
I’m loving the subtle color variation in this ceramic field tile, and the interesting shapes give it a unique design.
Penny tile was trending for a while, and I think this scallop shape might become the new 2018 version of penny tile. This gray fish scale tile is mesh mounted and would lend a nice subtle pattern to your floor. I like that it feels both organic and geometric at the same time.
This Moroccan style tile is a bit more in-your-face, but I had to include it… the gray and white color scheme makes it feel a bit more approachable than the super contrasty black and white patterned floor tiles in my inspiration photos.
This marble tile would be an interesting choice for a shower floor, with its slight variation in color and feeling of movement thanks to the mix of squares and triangles.
Though I’m not a huge fan of chevron (I feel like it’s run its course), I really love this gray porcelain tile. I think it would look amazing with black grout, and would really add some interest to the floor without being overwhelming.
This hexagon mosaic tile is also a frontrunner for me (clearly I’m into hexagons). I love the sheen and the mix of flat white with textured gray.
I adore the way the angular pieces combine to form circular shapes on this kaleidoscope tile… so cool! You could use any color grout for this to achieve different looks.
And last but certainly not least, these gray and white X patterned floor tiles are really tickling my fancy. It’s not quite as subtle as some of the others, but it still has a classic feel.
Have you guys run across any other subtle patterned floor tiles you like? If you have recommendations, I’m all ears!
