There’s progress! We bought a mahogany dresser a few weeks ago from our local antique shop, and planned to paint it white. And this past weekend, I actually did it! This is fairly notable because I’m quite prone to buying things with the intention of fixing them up or altering them in some way, and then never doing it. Here’s what it looked like before:
I also spray painted the hardware gold to brighten it up a bit. I was worried it would look fake, so I did a couple of very thin coats of Montana Gold (the best spray paint ever) and I was quite pleased with the result when all was said and done. Then a happy accident happened… I forgot to attach the back plate when I was reattaching the first handle, and it looked so much better! So I just went with it.
My husband and I also decided that it would be best to buy a new bed frame (see the existing one here). The frugal DIYer in me wanted to try to cut the existing headboard down, but ever-practical Mike talked some sense into me and we ultimately decided that buying a lower metal bed frame and selling the old one on Craigslist would make way more sense.
We’ll be placing it in front of the window, so the lower the better…. and an open style headboard would let light through the area that overlaps the window. This one from Giantex is currently the frontrunner. I like the black finish and the rounded corners, and it has 13 inches of space for storage underneath.
That’s it for now. Next up: ordering the bed frame, painting the walls and rearranging the furniture. Check out the featured One Room Challenge designers’ progress here, and my fellow guest participants’ progress here.
