{Before & After} A Living Room Makeover On A Budget

I started with a white box. A boring, grungy, carpeted space with no personality… but a lot of potential. I painted the walls and tore up the carpeting myself (which was a dirty, disgusting process). Here’s what the room looked like before:

Pretty awful, right? There was nothing memorable about it, except for the uncomfortably bright green accent wall. So I made some pretty major changes….

Almost everything is either handmade, purchased on sale or bought at affordable online sites (stop by on Saturday for links to sources). My goal was to create an inviting, comfortable space with an eclectic modern feel to it. The end result is functional, but also an inspiring spot for my boyfriend and I to relax in everyday.

Charlie the puggle has claimed the blue custom chair as his own; he likes to keep an eye on the neighborhood.

The gold tray is big enough to hold some coffee table books, a vase of flowers and even a couple of coasters for drinks. Yes, I did make it myself using lots of spray paint and glitter.

We made our own triangular shelves to add to this unused corner of the room (yes, we did some serious woodworking). It’s a great, pet-safe place for plants, and also a convenient spot for a glass of wine if you’re sitting on that end of the sofa. I would highly recommend making a few of these if you have a similar corner in your home… they’re very handy!

And it’s a good display area for a vintage camera collection too. And feathers….

The gallery wall is an ever-changing exhibition of artwork, keepsakes and even polaroids (taken, of course, with one of my vintage cameras).

That’s it for today, but be sure to head over here for a list of sources, paint colors, etc. I’ll tell you where this fun Moroccan-style hurricane is from! Thanks for checking out my living room makeover everyone!

Faith
