If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you probably know that we have a new addition to the family… our daughter was born a couple of months ago and it’s been an incredible whirlwind ever since! She’s a great eater, a not-so-great napper and she’s started smiling a lot and even laughing on occasion. It’s amazing to see her grow and change every single day.
We wanted to share our big news with friends and family in the form of a birth announcement, but we also like to send out Christmas cards – so we decided to combine the two into birth announcement holiday cards! Because who likes to write out 75 addresses twice? Not me. We went with Mixbook again this year… they have a wide range of beautiful card layouts, and lots of gorgeous metallic foil finishes. We chose this design and used our own text. Mixbook has a great editor program that allows you to really customize your project.
And of course I had to take it a step further with a DIY element, so I decided to embellish the envelopes with a green paint stroke to make the addresses stand out.
The key to this project is to use a wide brush… the type that you would use to paint the walls. It really doesn’t take long to complete – about 10 minutes to paint 75 envelopes. Mix your paint with some water in a wide dish and make sure your envelopes are oriented with the flaps on the top. Paint a light stroke across the middle of the envelope, starting on the left and lifting up on the brush as you approach the right side. Let them dry, and then write the addresses with a plain old ball point pen. And that’s it!
