Okay, let’s start with some big news… I saw Joanna Gaines in person a couple of weeks ago! I traveled to Palm Springs, CA for Alt Summit (a conference for bloggers and influencers) and she was the keynote speaker. It was incredible to hear her chat casually about her humble beginnings (she worked at her dad’s Firestone tire shop for more than a decade) and then her journey to becoming a household name. It was fun to see that she’s a real person with quirks, passions and a sense of humor.
ANYWAYS. I could go on and on. But today we’re going to talk about how to compose your own modern farmhouse living room with a little help (okay a lot of help) from The Home Depot. Did you know that they now have a wide selection of interior home décor items available online?! And you guys, they’re good. They have thousands of on-trend products, free shipping on orders over $45, flexible delivery options and easy returns. I mean they’re not the nation’s #1 most trusted home improvement retailer for no reason 😉
A Step-By-Step Guide To Designing A Modern Farmhouse Living Room
Ground your room with a rug. I’m obsessed with this one… isn’t the braided fringe fantastic? The subtle geometric pattern is perfect for grounding your modern farmhouse living room, and it comes in a handful of sizes so you can pick the right one for your space.
Choose neutral yet unique furniture. In case you didn’t notice at first glance, this tufted sofa is curved. CURVED! Maybe I’ve been living under a rock, but I’ve never seen anything quite like this. You may have noticed that modern farmhouse living room designs always have a mostly neutral color scheme, so choosing furniture with interesting shapes will lend some personality to the space while still keeping that Joanna Gaines vibe.
Introduce subtle pops of color. If you’re a fan of color like I am, then these accents are a great place to introduce a small pop of muted color (but do this in moderation if you want to maintain that farmhouse feel).
Add texture with accents. Pillows are ideal for adding a bit of texture to any space, which is crucial for creating a layered space that looks like it was professionally styled. The softness that they add will make your sofa and chairs look oh-so-inviting. And they usually don’t cost much either! I’m just loving the metallic copper design on this soft little accent pillow.
