It’s always tempting to grab a bouquet of flowers at the grocery store. I mean…. you’re already there, you might as well kill two birds with one stone. But then you look at the selection and the idea doesn’t seem quite as appealing. BUT don’t leave yet, because there is a way to make them look chic – and today I’m going to show you how.
The key is to get a knockout centerpiece to put your flowers in – I like this multi-vase from Wayfair, but they have tons of other options in their vase section too.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Pink or purple mums
- Greenery
- Scissors
- Hinged metal multi-jar glass centerpiece
My local Stop & Shop has “DIY bouquets” with clusters of the same type of flower, so you can make your own combination. That’s what I used… they had me at DIY. I used pinkish purple mums and some kind of greenery with tiny yellow flowers. If you know what it’s called, let me know in the comments section!
Begin by trimming the mums so that each stem is about 12 inches long. Cut the greenery so that each piece is 14 inches long.
Put the multi-vase where you intend to display it and fill each jar with water (it will be quite heavy and unwieldy after you fill it). Insert the flowers into the vases so that they alternate with the greenery… each vase should have a few stems in it.
And that’s it! Easiest. Centerpiece. Ever. Here’s a hint: repetition is a really easy way to create a polished looking display with virtually no effort. And even if your grocery store doesn’t have the “DIY bouquets,” you can get one of those mixed arrangements with lots of different types of flowers and still choose three kinds and alternate them.
Charlie seemed unimpressed… but everyone else who’s seen the centerpiece has liked it 😉
And here’s my absolute favorite part about this multi-vase – it can be oriented in lots of different ways! You can spiral it into a round shape (which would look great on a round table)…
Or you can arrange it in an S shape…. or maybe a V… or a Z! The sky’s the limit. If you give this centerpiece a try, share it on Instagram with the tag #mydesignfixation – I might re-post it!
