A Designers’ Guide To Newburyport

If you haven’t been to Newburyport, Massachusetts, drop what you’re doing right now and plan a trip. I went last week, and I had a blast… I can’t wait to go back again! It’s one of those perfect seaside towns with a great mix of culture and style that still maintains a laid-back vibe. If you’re a foodie, you’ll have a great time. If you’re an art lover, you’ll have a great time. And if you’re a designer like me, you’ll definitely have a great time. Here’s a list of hot spots to hit:

S H O P :  Urban Elements

Urban Elements sells furniture and accessories, and they also have a large selection of items at a lower price point perfect for gifts (or a little treat for yourself!). They also have some fun animal art.. I was a sucker for the frenchie dog, of course.
Below are some favorite pieces of furniture, labeled and linked below from left to right.

The Paris Club Recliner /// The Giselle Tufted Leather Swivel Chair /// The Paris Club Swivel Chair /// The Luca Recliner

The Gatsby Leather Club Chair /// The Adler Slip Cover Sofa /// The Hamptons Slipcover Sofa /// The Calvin Sectional II /// The Olli Swivel Rocker

S H O P :  Newburyport Lighting

Newburyport Lighting has every kind of light you could imagine, from classic to über modern. And while many of the lighting stores I’ve been to seem overpriced, Newburyport Lighting has a great range of price points so you can stick to your budget, whatever it may be.
The owner, Steve, is incredibly welcoming and will be eager to help you find the perfect piece for your home (or your business… they work with commercial clients too).

E A T :  The Poynt

I’m still dreaming of my delicious brunch that I had at The Poynt last week… a play on eggs benedict, using polenta instead of an english muffin. YUM.

The Poynt is a feast for the eyes and the stomach. Being an interior design lover, I always judge restaurants partly by their décor… and The Poynt certainly receives high marks.

The Wolfe’s Den is a great spot for small events and gatherings… aren’t those chartreuse chairs fun?!

S H O P :  Valerie’s Gallery

Valerie’s Gallery is a great spot to hit if you’re an art lover. They have a great rotating collection of work in a variety of styles, and from mostly local artists. The people who work there are passionate about the work and can tell you all about each artist’s process.

I may or may not have come home with one of these fun polka dotted pinch pots made by Erin Moran.

S H O P :  Spangled USA

Spangled USA is a women’s clothing store dedicated solely to American-made pieces, and they have a very light-hearted spirit with lots of colorful patterns and designs. The purse below is made with seat belts, and each one is different.

They also have some great accessories… I was tempted by the turquoise necklace below. What a great statement piece!

S H O P :  Port Blue Accents

Port Blue Accents sells products from mostly local artisans, with a focus on natural elements like wood and leather. They also have a beautiful collection of soy candles with the most delicious scents… I chose one called “summer” and let me tell you, it is aptly named!

They have a wide range of gorgeous housewares that would make perfect housewarming gifts.

S H O P :  M.K. Benatti Jewelers

My husband got a little nervous when I came home raving about M.K. Benatti Jewelers, but it’s hard not to be excited about the stunning jewelry that they sell! They’re showroom is large, and filled with tons of beautiful ideas for your wish list that they will keep on file for you.

They have a fascinating process for creating custom jewelry, using a 3D printer and some serious technology. They will create a mockup of the piece first (shown above and below) to make sure it is exactly what you want, and then they will use it to create a mold for the final piece. I thought it was quite fascinating!
