Watching common ideas blossom into trends has always been a fascinating phenomenon to me, so this year I thought I’d make some predictions for 2016. I’ve highlighted ten things that have become popular of late – ideas which I foresee becoming even more prominent as time goes on. Click through to see what should be on your radar in upcoming months.
1. Hexagons, Hexagons, Hexagons

They are starting to pop up all over the internet – from storage and wall decor to floor tiles and backsplashes. Trust me, you’ll see them all over the place now.
2. Yarn, Rope & Cord Wall Hangings

These fun pieces of wall art are so easy to make, and lend so much warmth to your space as well. It’s no wonder they are becoming such a hot trend. Look for macrame too.
3. Himmeli Style DIY Projects

Himmeli is a style that originated in Sweden, and is made of tube shapes and formed into three dimensional geometric sculptures or functional pieces. Himmeli style DIYs are popping up everywhere, from hanging planters to wreaths to light fixtures.
4. Marble EVERYTHING

Marble has been very popular in home renovations over the last couple of years… marble countertops are becoming more and more prevalent, as are marble tiled floors and backsplashes. But now the luxe material is even showing its face in lots of DIY projects for the home. (Also: did you notice the shape of the clock?!)
5. Penny Round Tiles

Unique tiles are having a moment in general (patterned tiling is quite popular too) but penny round tiles in particular seem to be everywhere. Look for them in both bathrooms and kitchens.
6. Brass Accents

For a while it was gold. Then copper. And now it is brass… the go-to metal to add a bit of glamour and originality to your space. And it’s not just confined to the bathroom – brass accents look great anywhere in the house.
7. Artisan Goods

Handmade, artisan goods from around the world will most likely rise in popularity this year, as homeowners strive to give their space a unique, worldly sense of style. Especially noticeable will be Turkish products (rugs, peshtemals, etc).
8. Mixed Materials

Materials are starting to commingle more lately, especially things like marble and cement sitting alongside wood. Above is a DIY tray, but the trend is also becoming fashionable in flooring (check this out) and even furniture.
9. Unique Ceiling Treatments

Ceilings are starting to receive more attention than they ever have… so don’t let your bedroom ceiling be an afterthought anymore!
10. Faux Fur

It’s cozy, warm and soft… what’s not to love?! Smaller faux furs are being draped over chairs all over the place, and large faux fur rugs are becoming super trendy as well.
Cheers to a stylish 2016!
