A traditional Painkiller is made with Pusser’s Rum, which is a dark spirit well-known for its history with the royal navy. My Pain Reliever cocktail has a similar flavor to the famous, trademarked version, but differs in that it tastes a bit lighter. I’ve substituted white rum for the Pusser’s, and added a bit of vanilla extract to give it some added character. The resulting concoction will make you feel like you’re at a beachside bar in the Virgin Islands. Here’s the recipe….
– 2 ounces of white rum
– 4 ounces of pineapple juice
– 1 ounce orange juice
– 1 ounce cream of coconut
– 3 or 4 drops of pure vanilla extract
– A dash of nutmeg
– A lime slice
Combine all ingredients except the nutmeg in a cocktail shaker with ice and mix for a minute or two, until the liquid becomes frothy. Pour into a rocks glass over ice and garnish with a thin lime slice. Sprinkle with nutmeg, and pretend you’re in the Caribbean!
