Learn About the History of Furniture With One Kings Lane

Many of you have probably heard of One Kings Lane, the leading flash sale sight in the home decor market. Well the good folks over at One Kings Lane have asked me to introduce you to their new Home Decor Resource, an informational hub where you can learn about anything from the history of the Chesterfield Sofa to Sori Yanagi’s iconic Butterfly Stool. It’s a great place to build some historical knowledge, and it’s also a good resource for learning about the basics of purchasing furniture and having it reupholstered or refinished.

Or you can also learn about something you already own, like I did with my statement chair below! This is a well-loved piece of furniture (my dog Charlie enjoys burying his bones behind the cushion), and it sits proudly in front of the bay windows in our living room.

It’s a wingback style upholstered chair with tufting and brass nailhead details running along the top edge. And it turns out it’s reminiscent of the “Martha Washington” wingback chair shown here, popular during the American Federal Style era. Who knew? Not me!

These are just a few examples of what you can learn in the Home Decor Resource Guide… I hope you’ll check it out! Learning is always a good thing, right?
