DIY Dorm Room Decor On A Budget

It’s that time of year again, when summer is more than halfway over (ahhhh!) and school is just around the corner. For many of you, this means that you’ll be living in a dorm room for nine months. And there’s no reason to feel like you’re stuck in a lifeless white box! A few weeks ago I shared some thoughts on how to decorate your walls using non-permanent materials. Below are a handful of other ideas for the rest of your room.
By the way – any of these tutorials would be great for an apartment or house if your college days are over. So don’t click away just yet!
Make a tassel garland using all that leftover tissue paper
you probably have in the closet. Find out how here.
Turn a thrifted table into a blank canvas using chalkboard
paint. A great conversation starter! Image via Lifehacker.
Buy some cork trivets from Ikea and hang them up in an
interesting layout… instant bulletin board! Via Babble.
Color blocking is still big these days – so grab some construction
paper and create a giant rectangle wall. Via Apartment Therapy.
I especially love this one… paint a fun pattern on a peg board
and use it as a headboard. Then you can hang baskets, lights,
etc. on it! Functional and pretty. Image via Color Chats.
Don’t forget to add some sparkle to your space! Use
this tutorial to create a beautiful glittery vase or pencil cup.
I hope these ideas have inspired you to go make some fun stuff for your dorm room. And don’t forget to enjoy college while it lasts… take advantage of all the free campus events and speakers – you won’t regret it later! (Okay I’ll come down off my soapbox now).
Happy DIY’ing!
