I had a few extra bottles of open wine laying around, and they were on the verge becoming what I like to call “cooking wine.” This is when they aren’t so great to sip on, but still perfectly usable for sauces and marinades. And it hit me – why not freeze the extra wine so I always have some on hand? That way, the next time I feel the urge to make marinara sauce, I won’t have to go buy a new bottle of wine. So I froze them in an ice cube tray!
I would recommend using a wine pouring spout to make your aim a bit more exact… it’s tough to get the juice in the right spot. Then pop it in the freezer for a few hours, and voila – wine cubes that are ready for your next fancy recipe. I popped them out of the tray and into a Ziploc bag. In retrospect, I probably should have put the whites and the reds in separate bags… next time. Now go cook something delicious with them and let me know how it turned out!
