After attending numerous art openings and exhibitions last week, I came away with a fresh perspective on the series I’ve been developing for the last couple of months. The most interesting, in my opinion, was the VIP opening for the Shepard Fairey exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston. Although aesthetically less applicable to my own photography, the modern ideals and contradictory relationships are useful and inspirational. And his marketing techniques leading to his rise to fame are nothing less than brilliant. His work covers highly visible public walls in cities from LA to New York to Boston. His widely publicized arrests raise awareness of his art. His clothing line and graphic design firm reach even more audiences. Well played, Shepard Fairey, well played…
