Our downstairs bathroom has been a work in progress since we bought our house several years ago. When we first moved in, it was builder-grade everything… and since then, we’ve been slowly updating it. We added picture frame moulding and painted the top half of the room a dark blue-green color. But we’ve wanted to replace the vanity for ages, so we decided it was finally time for an affordable bathroom makeover. So we searched far and wide for the perfect vanity – and we figured we might as well redo the floors while the vanity was out. No problem, right??
Well, it wasn’t as easy as we expected of course… our house was built in the early 1800’s, after all. So no renovation is ever easy thanks to uneven surfaces and crooked lines. But we did it, and we’re so thrilled to have this beastly vanity out of here. I mean, this thing was bad. It was peeling, stained, and just plain blah.
Look at the difference! This vanity is from Wayfair and we couldn’t be happier with it. The barn door style is perfect for small spaces since the door slides instead of opening outward, and the rectangular sink gives it a contemporary feel that works perfectly with the style of our home. The words “affordable bathroom makeover” don’t usually go together, but this vanity is actually quite reasonably priced at $369 (currently on sale).
We wavered between a number of different options (Wayfair has so many!) but settled on this one because of the unique barn door and basket combination. We use the top basket for our little one’s bath items so I love that we can take it out and put it on the floor.
Here’s an even older before photo from when we toured the house before moving in. Yikes.
Ahhh, much better. While the new floors look like wood, they’re actually long thin vinyl tiles which makes them perfect for our wonky bathroom thanks to their slight flexibility. They’re waterproof too.
We also have a typeset printer’s drawer mounted on the wall that holds all the wine corks from our important life milestones. Even bathrooms need small sentimental details. Hope you enjoyed our affordable bathroom makeover as much as we (and our wallets) do!
