DIY Tropical Monogram Trinket Box

While I’m on maternity leave, I’ve asked a few of my favorite bloggers to contribute to Design Fixation. Today, my friend Cat from ctrl + curate will be sharing how to create this adorable monogram trinket box. Take it away Cat!

Hello beautiful readers! I am so honored to do a guest post for Faith. We virtually met a little over a year ago after years of pinning her DIYs, and now this post feels a little surreal. We both know that even though summer is over, that doesn’t mean bright colors have to be banished from your home. Having a little (or a lot!) of color throughout your home can keep that bright and happy energy going all year round. These little trinket boxes are an easy way to add that little tropical dose to your decor.

I have a terrible habit of leaving jewelry all over the house. It’s a habit I was inclined to break, but I’ve started putting decorative boxes everywhere as cute catchalls for them and now the clutter is an excuse to keep making trinket boxes! I’ve been using this “H” box for stray hairpins and can confidently say it’s helping keep all the tiny “get ready” clutter at bay.

Here’s what you’ll need for your DIY tropical monogram trinket box:

Paint your trinket boxes. Use light, even coats to paint the favor boxes. If you’re using a thinner printer paper, you might have to paint a light base color anywhere you want to add a trim piece to keep the printout pattern true to color.

Prep your paper parts. Print and cut out your monograms (get the PDF here) and set aside. Use an Exacto blade to cut out any interior parts of the letters.

Bonus option! Print out the full pattern paper to create your own designs or cut trim pieces to coordinate with the monogram. Make sure to keep the trim piece below the lid overlap to ensure it won’t interfere with closing the box.

Glue it down. Apply glue to the back of the monogram and trim pieces. Apply to the trinket box and let dry.

Your boxes are ready! These would make such a great gift box or be perfect for a girls’ craft night!
